Red Ant Hill Meets Molten Aluminum in this Amazing—If Creepy—Art Video

Fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are nasty little buggers. The highly aggressive, invasive species have a hum-dinger of a bite, destroy crops and force out local animal and plant species from the areas they invade.

While we're not too keen on death-art, these creatures are pretty dastardedly and apparently need to die, so why not make the world a little more beautiful while delivering just punishment?  Some creative artists are doing just that, molten aluminum style. This clip shows an ant-punisher pouring the searing liquid metal into an ant hill—only to have the aluminum cool into this gleaming silvery cast that looks like Venutian coral.

Isn’t dual-function art just the best?
