Quote of the Day: Plumber Joe Says, "Your Dead Kids Don’t Trump My Constitutional Rights"

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher—otherwise known as "Joe the Plumber"—has gone ahead and blown a few more minds with his bastardized sense of nationalism and wickedly sharp tongue in defending the Second Amendment.

Just this morning, Wurzelbacher published an open letter on Barbwire to the parents of those children who were killed in the Santa Barbara shooting. And guess what? He feels bad and all, but a tragedy of this caliber is no reason to compromise the Constitution, guys!

I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through now. But: As harsh as this sounds – your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights.

Just who is this pig-headed, trigger-happy gent? Wurzelbacher entered the public eye during the 2008 presidential election in Ohio. The story goes that Wurzelbacher asked Obama about his small business tax policy and Obama basically said, "When you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody." Of course the conservatives all screamed "commie!" in gleeful unison and generally had a field day with socialist accusations. That same day Wurzelbacher expressed interest in purchasing a small plumbing business and the McCain-Palin campaign (remember those days?!) dubbed him "Joe the Plumber" and used him as a mascot-metaphor for middle-class Americans.

Not surprisingly, Wurzelbacher managed to leverage his four seconds in the red-hot spotlight into a career, and has since become a "conservative activist," motivational speaker and author. (God help us.) Oh, and did we mention he ran for Congress? (Needless to say, he lost.)

In other terrifying news, 2015 is predicted to the first year in history that gun fatalities will surpass car deaths, rising to almost 33,000. But who's counting?
