This Week in Hillary-World: Feeling the Heat from Both Sides of the Aisle

Each week, we explore Hillary Clinton's universe, gleaning insights from rumor-mongers, pundits, pollsters, political writers and more. Yes, the election is still a bazillion years away, but when it comes to the story of the potential first female president ever (!!), it's never too early to start the conversation.

Glenn Beck Calls Hills a Lesbian

After crazy-talking his way off America's radar, provocateur extraordinaire Glenn Beck is back in the headlines for this offensive statement:

I’m telling you, Hillary Clinton will be having sex with a woman on the...White House desk if it becomes popular. She’ll be like, ‘Look, the arc of history wasn’t ready for a president to be a lesbian and have sex on the desk.’

Beck supposedly made this incendiary comment to call out Hillary's hypocrisy on same-sex marriage. But we can't help but wonder if it had something to do with the 'ol "powerful women are all lesbians!" trope. Glenn Beck inciting his audience with blatantly sexist stereotyping? Why, we never...

Tina Brown Tries to Scare Hillary Away From Office

Media titan Tina Brown has penned an op-ed persuading Hillary not to run, because—basically—leading the free world sounds like a total bummer, man! Brown noted that becoming president entails a transition from the "vile toxicity of the campaign experience" to "the grueling gridlock of the Oval Office itself.” (See? No fun!)

True, being the presidency sounds like an exercise in masochism, but why dissuade Hillary in particular from taking the responsibility on? Might it be because she's a woman, and we fear delicate ladies are less equipped to handle the rigors of such a brutal job?

We'd like to believe Brown knows better than to make such an assumption. But it's telling that she also highlighted Hillary's impending grandma-dom, writing:

Now that Chelsea is pregnant, and life for Hillary can get so deeply familial and pleasant, she can have her glory-filled post-presidency now, without actually having to deal with the miseries of the office itself.

Yes, Hillary, why be in a position of immense power and prestige when things could be so "familial and pleasant"? Now go cross-stitch some grandbaby bibs and remove your delicate ladyness from the nasty world of politics.

Hillary Gets Wrist-Slapped on Snowden Facts

Proving that Hillary doesn't just get knocked by right-wingers, the liberal punditry has taken her to task for some misleading statements she made about NSA leaker Edward Snowden. The Atlantic and Mother Jones are among the lefty outlets to note that it was deceitful of her to claim the U.S. has strong protections in place for whistleblowers like Snowden; The Atlantic even went so far as to say her words "give Democrats a preview of the misinformation they can expect if they make her their standard-bearer."

Ouch.

Benghazi Will. Not. Die.

Just in time for the upcoming midterm elections, the GOP has decided to amp up its Benghazi hysteria by launching an official committee to investigate the attacks. While the exercise seems full of hot air, it still highlights how much Benghazi remains Hillary's albatross...and we can only imagine how much more hyped-up GOP outrage will become as the elections gets closer. Will the outcry be enough to sink her, especially among undecideds?

The Lowdown

All in all, we have to say, this was a pretty dismal week for Hillary. It's not good when attacks are coming not only from the likes of Glenn Beck and John Boehner (surprise!), but also Tina Brown and The Atlantic (no really...surprise!). That said, her polling still seems strong; in Florida, for instance, she's outpacing Jeb Bush, her potential challenger and a Sunshine State politician.

Will Hills continue to whether the storm...and just how wild will the winds blow? Stay tuned for our next roundup!
