BREAKING: You are not entitled to a woman's body! Even if she's famous!
Gigi Hadid would like you to know that unwanted touching is not acceptable.
I would also like you to know that and I am applauding Gigi Hadid for fighting back against the man who grabbed her from behind without her permission or consent and tried to lift her into the air. The model retaliated by elbowing the guy in the face a few times until he put her down.
This is exactly what all of us would tell our daughters to do in that situation.
The guy, who’s some Ukrainian internet personality with a history of accosting celebrities and pretending like unsolicited physical contact is a prank instead of assault, is outraged that a woman he doesn’t know didn't want him to put his grubby hands on her body. Apparently no one ever told him that he is NOT ENTITLED TO TOUCH PEOPLE. Not even famous people.
People who think that celebrities have ceded their right to bodily autonomy are all over the internet saying, “What? He’s a fan? He does pranks! She didn’t have to hit him!”
Yeah, she actually fucking did. She had to hit him because there are people who don’t get why it’s not ok to grab another human being — especially one you don’t know. There are people who don’t understand that you have to receive consent to make contact with another’s person’s body. There are people who don’t understand that bodies — especially women’s bodies — are not public property.
Gigi Hadid helped clear that mythology up a little by defending herself from an attacker. Brava, Gigi. Brava.
