First we were told that Adele is releasing a new album and following it up with a tour. Our hopes soared. Then, the parent company of Adele's recording label said, "That's just a rumor. Chill out you, you broken-hearted bitches." (OK, not quite—but that was totally the subtext.) Our dreams were shattered, stomped on, and thrown into a fiery furnace.
Since we are not yet ready to give up on our dreams of Adele, we hereby present to you an ode to the goddess of angel-voiced despair—in the form of a completely tragic love poem using her lyrics. Our advice: Don't read this after a breakup . . . or face certain tear-streaked doom.
Never Mind, I'll Just Keep Chasing Pavements While Tables Turn in the Fiery Rain
God only knows what we're fighting for
Under your thumb, I can't breathe
All that I say, you always say more
Under haunted skies I see you
Don’t forget me, I beg
Where love is lost, your ghost is found
Hear my heart burst again
Still how can you walk away
From all my tears
So is it over? Is this really it, you're giving up so easily
I guess she gave you things I didn’t give to you
You left with no goodbye, not a single word was said
No final kiss to seal anything
I had no idea of the state we were in
Hear my heart burst again
I thought you loved me more than this
When was the last time you thought of me?
Or have you completely erased me from your memories?
Hear my heart burst again
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you
I've been walking in the same way as I did
And turning my heel and strutting my feet
I won’t let you close enough to hurt me
Hear my heart burst again
(Song lyrics used: "Hometown Glory," "Skyfall," "Set Fire to the Rain," "Don't You Remember," "Take It All," "Turning Tables," "Someone Like You" and "Chasing Pavements.")
