Sang Kil Is A New Mom!

What is your latest food obsession?
I would have to say Kefir yogurt is my latest food obsession. Or probiotic stuff in general. I'm Korean and I used to eat kimchi a lot, and not knowing it was a probiotic food I ate less because of the salt content. Now I'm like, hey I get to eat it again! So I've been loving the kimchi lately, too.

Tell us about the most important day of your life.
Well, that would be when I just adopted my kid — last Monday!

What made you realize you wanted to adopt?
Well, I knew I didn't want biological children, but I still wanted children in my life. So that made me realize that adoption was the way to go. It's been a really great milestone.

What is one of the challenges of being a new parent?
Definitely energy. Kids take a lot of energy, and they need a lot of energy, so that's been really interesting to kind of muster up the energy! But other than that, it's been really neat getting to know someone on that level.

Whom do you look up to?
I can't think of anybody off the top of my head other than radical activists like Angela Davis or Grace Lee Boggs who just passed away. She was another really awesome woman of color activist. She was an Asian-American who was involved the in the radical side of the Civil Rights struggle. I really admire people who are good at pushing against the system, especially women of color.

Tell me about your personal style!
Major thrift store shopper growing up and never stopped. Now I don't have as much time to thrift store/vintage shop as I'd like, so a lot of it is off the rack stuff and just things that I can find from girlfriends, trade off stuff. I don't do any brand names or stuff like that — just something comfy! I gotta be able to run! [laughs]
