Watch: This is What It Looks Like to be Hunted by a Shark

Don't look now, but Shark Week is nigh upon us. To wet your palate for the sharp-toothed, stalking beasts, here’s a clip from a “SharkCam” deployed by a team of researchers off the coast of Mexico to film close-ups (super close-ups) of great white sharks.

Besides the lightening-fast attack of the sharks, who decided to chomp into the filming device, you may notice that the sharks’ eyes are protected against potential flailing prey by a small flap of skin that temporarily covers the surface. Shark etiquette 101: When shredding the life out of another animal, one never wants one’s eyes poked.
